Celebration After Our COPAR Exposure

At long last! Our 6-week COPAR Community Exposure has finally come to an end! And after every long stressful week, we all need a break. So all of us decided to go to the Buhisan Dam where you still have to ask for permission from the DENR because the place is protected.

We really had a great time in the Buhisan Dam. I'm also gonna miss that very peaceful place. There's really more to it than what the pictures show but I just can't put it to words right now. Haay. Maybe I'm just too emotional becuase this will really be my last experience as a nursing student. This is really an experience worth remembering. Thanks to my classmates, my friends. ^_^

By the way, this was taken on the jeepney on our way home. The jeepney was full so we had no choice but to cling at the back. tsk3!

COPAR Community Assembly

Yep! That's me on our COPAR Community Assembly. I'm one of the speakers that time and I was interpreting and explaining the data we have gathered from our community survey. My topic was about the community's immunization status, their drug habits and the most common diseases found in the community.

While the talk is going on, some of my classmates are also busy taking blood pressure at the back for those who want to kno their blood pressure.

We also prepared snacks for the 50+ people who attended our Community Assembly and some raffles for those who can answer the questions we throw at them. Of course, the questions are related to the topics discussed, so they really have a reason to listen to our discussions!

The COPAR Community Assembly is the last and most tiring part of our COPAR Exposure so we took some pics with all the members and Clinical Instructors present.

I'm really going to miss this experience and especially my time with my classmates.

Feeding Program in the Community | COPAR

After our Community Health Teaching and our Operation Blood Pressure, another activity we had while on our COPAR experience is the Feeding Program. As you can see, I'm already in some of the photos so I'm inspired to blog about this one! This is one of the most fun experience we had in our COPAR because we get to mingle with a lot of kids and not only that, we have made them happy by our Feeding Program. This was held in the Sitio Nazareth Day Care Center so a lot of kids were really there waiting for their classes to start.

We have taken a lot of pictures so I don't need to narrate everything that happened because a single photo is worth 1000 words. And I don't think I have that 1000 words so let the pictures narrate the story. ^_^

COPAR Community Operation BP (Blood Pressure)

Another activity we had is our operation BP (Blood Pressure). Again, I'm not in the photos. So Sad. =c. I was somewhere up in the mountains, taking Blood Pressure on another area of the community. Anyway, here are some pictures of my classmates taking Blood Pressure.

COPAR Health Teaching

We had many activities during our COPAR days. And one those is our health teaching with our prioritized family. My topic in my health teaching to my family is about Anemia because the head of their family is Anemic. Sad to say though, I have no pictures of myself doing their Health Teaching. Our 1st Day Of Community Organizing Participatory Action Research (COPAR)

Before I talk about my experience on our first day of COPAR, you may want to check out first what COPAR Nursing really means.

Our first day of COPAR happened last Jan. 20, 2009. Yeah I know, this post is already too late, but don't care anyway. Hehe! I just have to post this one because it's one of my greatest experience in COPAR.

Our group was assigned in Barangay Buhisan, Sitio Nazareth, Cebu City for our COPAR Nursing. Before we arrived at the place, our Clinical Instructor already told us what to expect in there. he said that the place was settled in a Valley, and you can just see Mountains around you where most houses are settled. And he was right! We still actually have to climb mountains just to interview a family for our Family Health Assessment form! But this actually, is what makes COPAR so fun and exciting.

The first picture above was taken at the peak of the mountain we climbed on our first day. Very scenic right? But before you can reach that, you have to go through a series of "phases" first!

1st Phase: The Ascending Phase

That's steep you know! You may think it's easy but it's not! This is where we can test our BALANCE It's very easy to slip because of our shoes and because of the rocky road. Actually there were some who slipped that puts us to the next phase!

2nd Phase: The Sobbing Phase


See? I told you it's not that easy! Imagine if one falls, then all the other people behind might also fall! This phase is where we can test our FEARS and EMOTIONS.

3rd Phase: The Vanity Phase


Now that were at the top, all the fears, the anxieties and the sobbing are gone. But then, vanity strikes again! tsk3! I wonder what test this phase gave to us?? ?_?

4th Phase: The Descending Stage


Actually, climbing down the mountain is much harder than climbing up! This is where we can test the STRENGTH of our leg muscles!

Now, who said being a Nurse was all Boring Hospital Stuffs??

Community Health Nursing: What's so good about it??

I should have posted this topic long ago but I always forgot until it finally went out of my mind. It just came back to me when we started discussing again about Community Health Nursing in our lecture today. So, I would like to share some of my experiences on our CHN duty or Community Health Nursing and what's so good about it.

I'm used to hearing my sister say that having a duty in the hospital is better than in the community. She said that it's very tiring when in the community. But when it was my turn to have a duty in the community, I proved her WRONG!! ^^ My experience in the community was great. We had great time with my RLE group. And do you want to know what made it so great??

The first three photos were taken in the house of one of the families assigned to one of my classmate to conduct a study for our Family Heal Survey and Family Nursing Care Plan. His family was so nice. His family cooks food and sells it in their community, and we "the guys" were the luck ones to taste it! And I tell you, It tastes great! The food was a "tinola" or "souped-fish" It really was a great time for us! The fourth photo (I hate this photo, I'm nowhere to be found because I was the one taking the picture!!) was taken in a bakery just in front of the Barangay Health Center!

It's just not the food that makes it great. When pre-natal day comes, Dozens of mother's with their babies come and our task that time is to take their vital signs. I volunteered myself to be the one taking the mother's blood pressure and the babies temperateure rate. It was cool because there's just so many mothers and I get to practice my blood pressure taking skills, and in the shortest period of time, to cater all of the mothers. We also had our flower arrangements while in the community.

And after the fun day, we again took pictures, this time, with me, because the one taking the picture was already the Barangay Health Worker.

HOW IT FELT WHEN I WAS "DEAD"

Yeah.. It really is me.. "dead". And anyone who reads this post, even this first line, will be HAUNTED by me for the rest of their lives! BWAHAHA!

JUST KIDDING GUYS! I can't do that to you, I love all my readers! hehe! But really, the guy in the photo is really me.. no joke. I'll show you another proof. ^_^




There you go! It really is me! ^_^ That happened when we had out Return Demonstration for Post-mortem care. It was kinda fun to play dead you know. But I really didn't have fun doing the Post-mortem care to my partner! I missed a lot of procedures and even forgot to bring some of the materials needed! Grrr! Im sure I got the lowest score on this demonstration. But I don't care anyway. ^_^ Playing dead was a lot more fun.. you get tied on the hands, you get tied on your head, and feet tied too. You even get to experience wearing an adult diaper too! (See in the picture) But all the fun ends there! After that, you're going to be wrapped in a blanket. I mean "wrapped" as in "Lumpiang Shanghai"! No body part should be exposed inculding the head and you'll remain wrapped until your partner is done with the procedure! And with no air-conditioned rooms, you'll feel like you're in an oven, ready to me heated! You'll even have a hard time breathing. So if you think being dead was fun?? Not a chance! You'll die trying to breath and trying to cool off your body! Haha!

OUR VERY FIRST DAY OF EXPOSURE IN THE HOSPITAL

GUYS! I apologize for the three consecutive posts about performance checklist. Many students are just begging me to post some of my notes. And I also want this blog to be very informative and very useful to students who needs it. Please bear with the posts. ^_^ I'll make sure to post more on our experiences. ^_^

So here's the footage from our first day in the hospital. Our group was assigned on the Out Patient Department and we were very much lucky with it! The Out patient department was the least stressful from all of the wards! Unlike in other wards, we were only assigned to guide patients to their respective rooms and take their TPRBP or Temperature, Pulse rate, Respiratory rate, and blood pressure. And most importantly, we were required to do DUSTING every morning!!! GRRR! But at least our dusting skills had improve! haha! ^_^ But still, our group was the most relaxed in our section, the BAD thing is, we just can't relate to our other clssmates talking about NGT and IV insertion because theirs no such things as that on the out patient department! T_T But anyway, we'll still get to that part. ^_^ So if your assigned in the OPD for the first time, all I can say is, ENJOY and RELAX! ^_^

STUDENT NURSES ARE ALSO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS

Yeah! At long last! I was able to open my blogger account! It's been a while since I last posted something on my blog! I missed blogging sooooo much! And I'm also very happy that ALL our requirements in school is already done! And only 3 more days to go.. It's already our final exams! Then.... semestral break! Yipee! I'll be able to blog all day and all night! Can't wait!!! ^_^

Hmmm.. You might be wondering now why the title of this posts is "Student Nurses are also Information Technology Students". Actually, one of our requirements for our final exams in our Information and Communications Technology Subject (or is otherwise known as "Computer Subject") is to create two videos. One is a music video and the other one is a documentation film. My group is required to make an OPM (or Original Pinoy Music) music video and our chosen song was Magbalik by Callalily. The setting of our video is just in our school and the story is about a Guy who was caught by his girlfriend dating with a "gay" guy! His girlfriend dumped him and because of his depression, he ate too much "side-street" food. Unfortunately, Karma maybe, the guy got LBM (Loose Bowel Movement) and always going back to the CR. Magbalik in english simply means "to return" which is also our point in the movie, to Return to the CR! ^_^ Fortunately, he bumped on a Girl (who was also eating the "side-street" food) in the CR!

And since I was not able to blog for a long time, this is my treat for you guys! This is the fruit of our labor, from our tiring, stressful but fun week! Hope you enjoy the movie! "FINISH THE BATH"

Finish the bath just simply, plainly means.... WASHING THE GENITAL AREA! Not a big deal right? All you have to do is to,, SHAVE, WASH, SOAP IN A CIRCULAR MOTION, and RINSE. But the question is, do you have the guts to do it? hahaha! BEWARE SOON-TO-BE NURSING STUDENTS! WAHAHA!

I admit that bathing is a very refreshing, stimulating, thirst-quenching thing to do. But this ones entirely different! We all had the chance to be the patient(the one to be bathed), and I thought at first that this is gonna be great! A break from our stressful days. But it just turned out to be a more stressful day for us! Instead of having that, refreshing, stimulating, thirst-quenching feeling, we all ended up with head aches and an icky feeling! Unless for patients who haven't bathed for years of course! haha! But one things for sure, I WON'T BE BED BATHED AGAIN! NO MORE! ^_^
